Ackerman and Parks&#8217; introductions appeared. These hardy\u00a0cultivars have changed the playing field.<\/div>\n<div>Recently, I\u00a0asked\u00a0some local camellia &#8220;experts&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0what\u00a0<strong>one<\/strong> favorite cultivar gardeners should start with.\u00a0 While none wanted to go on record\u00a0as picking\u00a0just one, &#8216;Pink Icicle&#8217; (pictured) appeared on everyone&#8217;s long list. One landscaper stated that he planted &#8216;Pink Icicle&#8217; in an open\u00a0full sun\u00a0garden area of a cemetary ten years ago and all have prospered.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>&#8216;Pink Icicle&#8217; blooms\u00a0nearly two months\u00a0in March and April from New York, NY, southward\u00a0and westward to St. Louis, MO.\u00a0It sports a\u00a0 glossy dark green foliage which is better looking than most fall blooming cultivars. Choose a garden location where the camellia is protected from mid-afternoon summer sun and blustery winter winds.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The culture of camellias is\u00a0similar to rhododendrons and azaleas.
