A strikingly beautiful plant, \u2018Fireball\u2019 thrives on heat and humidity. It wants full sun and a moist well drained soil to reach its full flowering potential. Expect hundreds of blooms on\u00a03-4 years old established plants grown in a richly amended composted soil and kept irrigated.<\/p>\n<p>Flowers\u00a0are both huge and showy.\u00a0Blooms are the size of dinner plates.\u00a0A prominent pistil and stamen is in the center of each flower.\u00a0 Each bloom lasts but one day, but\u00a0&#8216;Fireball&#8217;\u00a0blooms almost nonstop from July to early September.<\/p>\n<p>Hardy hibiscus demands heat, moisture and long days. They are late\u00a0to emerge from the soil, many years after May 15th\u00a0in the Southern Appalachian region (USDA zones 6 and 7). Feed them regularly with a water soluble\u00a020-10-20 fertilizer (or equivalent). Hibiscus sawfly, mites,\u00a0and aphids\u00a0may be serious nemeses.<\/p>\n<p>This late flowering habit makes\u00a0hardy hibiscus\u00a0ideal companion plants to interplant with spring blooming bulbs like daffodils and tulips.<\/p>\n<p>Fireball\u2122 is one of several hardy hibiscus bred by the Fleming Brothers in Lincoln, Nebraska.
