This is followed by Japanese cedar (<em>Cryptomeria japonica<\/em>) and western arborvitae (<em>Thuja x plicata<\/em>). These three evergreen species have a rapid growth rate and eventually attain heights of 40-60 feet, sometimes in less than 20 years.\u00a0 Ask yourself the question: \u201cdo you really\u00a0need a huge green barrier around your property?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hollies offer the benefits of lustrous green foliage and colorful fruit. The following evergreen species create a dependable privacy screen: Dwarf Burford holly (<em>I. cornuta<\/em> \u2018Dwarf Burford\u2019), Inkberry (<em>I. glabra<\/em>), American holly <em>(I. opaca<\/em>), Foster #2 holly (<em>I. x attenuata<\/em>), and Nellie R. Stevens holly (<em>I. <\/em>x \u2018Nellie R. Stevens\u2019).<\/p>\n<p><strong>A few simple tips about growing hollies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hollies prefer a slightly\u00a0acidic, well-drained, and organically rich soil.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Hollies prefer full to partial sun location.<\/li>\n<li>Established hollies\u00a0demonstrate good drought tolerance.<\/li>\n<li>Space plants a minimum of 12 feet apart.<\/li>\n<li>Hollies should be properly mated.
