The true flowers are\u00a0the small multiple buds at the\u00a0base of the bracts.<\/p>\n<p>To select a top quality plant, closely inspect the\u00a0development of the small flowers. Buds\u00a0should tightly closed or barely showing few yellow stamens (photo). Once the flowers have fully opened and dried, your poinsettia\u2019s overall health\u00a0declines.<\/p>\n<p>Before purchasing,\u00a0inspect the stems and leaf undersides for insects and insect. Don&#8217;t buy plants\u00a0which have pests. The plant foliage should be dark green throughout. If bottom leaves are starting to yellow, don&#8217;t buy. The plant should also stand on its own and not be staked or wired.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t shock or damage in transit to your home or a friend\u2019s home.
