Re-bloomers are specific cultivars that bring on a\u00a0repeat floral show – two and sometimes\u00a0three\u00a0in one season. In my garden\u00a0re-blooming iris and re-blooming daylilies return for another round of\u00a0bloom in late summer and fall. Also, deadheading<\/span>\u00a0some perennials will cause them to\u00a0flower again. <\/strong><\/p>\n

You, the gardener, must supply needed soil moisture and nutrition (primarily nitrogen) as these plants\u00a0should not\u00a0struggle through\u00a0an environmentally stressful summer. Plant vigor gets recharged by frequent irrigation and adequate fertilizing. In\u00a0some situations you may need to monitor and treat\u00a0disease and insect problems.<\/p>\n

As plants finish blooming in\u00a0“prime time”, remove all\u00a0 spent flower heads to prevent seed formation. For iris prune off old flowers in late May,\u00a0daylilies in late June and July.<\/p>\n

Deadheading:<\/span>\u00a0some perennials re-bloom a second and third time when old spent flowers are promptly\u00a0removed, and plants are properly nurtured.\u00a0Here are a dozen of\u00a0easy to re-bloomers: yarrow (Achillea<\/em>), blanket flowers (Gaillardia x grandiflora<\/i>), perennial salvia (Salvia x nemorosa<\/i>), tickseed (Coreopsis verticillata<\/i>), coneflower (Echinacea purpurea<\/em>), redhot poker (Kniphofia<\/em>), gayfeather (Liatris spicata<\/em>), summer phlox (Phlox paniculata<\/i>), Shasta daisy (Leucanthemum x superbum<\/i>), blackeyed Susan (Rudbeckia fulgida<\/em>), Stokes aster (Stokesia<\/em>)\u00a0and\u00a0speedwell (Veronica spp<\/i>.).<\/p>\n
