For example, it is not uncommon to\u00a0find zone 7 hardy trees and shrubs\u00a0for sale\u00a0in zone 6 store lots. Store plant buyers may be\u00a0responsible for ordering for 100 or more stores over a large geographic area.<\/li>\n<li>Disease or insect prone plants\u00a0such as Alberta spruce (<i>Picea glauca <\/i>\u2018Conica\u2019), hybrid tea roses, redtips (<i>Photinia\u00a0spp.<\/i>), some evergreen euonymus (<i>Euonymus fortunei<\/i>), and most lilacs (<i>Syringa\u00a0spp.<\/i>).<\/li>\n<li>Overly aggressive perennials are garden thugs. Here is a short list of the worst offenders: bishop&#8217;s weed (<i>Aegopodium podograria<\/i>), sundrops (<i>Oenothera speciosa<\/i>), yellow archangel (<i>Lamium galeobdolan<\/i>), gooseneck loosestrife (<i>Lysimachia clethroides<\/i>), creeping Jenny (<i>Lysimachia nummularia<\/i>), and chameleon plant (<i>Houttuynia<\/i>). Some (not all) varieties of English ivy (Hedera helix) are aggressive and potentially invasive in the adult stage.<\/li>\n<li>Short-lived trees or shrubs, such as Bradford pears (<i>Pyrus x\u00a0calleryana<\/i>), flowering peach (<i>Prunus\u00a0persica<\/i>), and ornamental plums (<i>Prunus cerasifera<\/i>).<\/li>\n<li>Trees and shrubs with aggressive\u00a0rootsystems. Examples include: staghorn sumacs (<i>Rhus typhina<\/i>) and (<i>R. glabra<\/i>), willows (<i>Salix spp.<\/i>), and many poplar species (<i>Populus\u00a0spp.<\/i>).<\/li>\n<li>High maintenance plants such as sycamores (<i>Platanus spp<\/i>.), most willows (<i>Salix spp<\/i>.), and poplars(<i>Populus spp<\/i>.)<\/li>\n<li>Invasive plants are absolute no nos. You should review your state watch list for plants you should avoid \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 purchasing. Many states have eradication programs in place to exclude multiflora rose (<i>Rosa multiflora<\/i>), \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 autumn olive (<em>Eleagnus umbellata<\/em>), Japanese honeysuckle (<i>Lonicera japonica<\/i>), oriental\u00a0bittersweet (<i>Celastrus orbiculatus<\/i>),\u00a0Japanese knotweed (<i>Polygonum\u00a0cuspidatum<\/i>), and purple loosestrife (<i>Lythrum<\/i> <i>salicaria<\/i>).\u00a0Some\u00a0states also list\u00a0east Asian honeysuckles (<i>Lonicera spp<\/i>.), specific varieties of Japanese barberry (<i>Berberis spp<\/i>.), Chinese privet (<i>Ligustrum chinensis<\/i>), maiden grass\u00a0(<i>Miscanthus spp<\/i>.), and some species of euonymus (<i>Euonymus spp.<\/i>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Gardening does involve some work, sometimes a lot more if you select the wrong plants.\u00a0A good\u00a0purchase may even reduce annual maintenance.
