Apparently, deodara cedars are much hardier than once thought. The buzz at\u00a0a recent American Conifer Regional meeting is these varieties list here are worthy of planting:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tree forms<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8216;Karl Fuchs&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Shalimar&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Eisregen&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Eiswinter&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Polar Ice&#8217;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Shrub forms<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8216;Feelin Blue&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Glacier Blue&#8217; (photo)<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Divinely Blue&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Snow Sprite&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Cream Puff&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Aurea&#8217;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Deodara cedars grow in deep, moist, well-drained, acidic loams in full sun. D-cedars are intolerant of poorly drained wet soils. D-cedars are very drought tolerant once established. I urge providing some protection around young plants from drying winter winds until they become established after two years. Add and maintain 3-4 inches of\u00a0 an organic mulch around newly planted cedars.
