Choose landscape trees that have seedless cultivars. A true seedless variety is an easy choice to\u00a0avoid fruit cleanup.<\/p>\n<p>Below are a few non-fruiting or seedless cultivars available at nurseries. Not all plants listed are recommended for all\u00a0home landscapes. For example, avoid planting any species of ash (<em>Fraxinus spp.<\/em>) because of the threat of Emerald Ash Borer \u00a0(EAB) infestaations. So do your homework before purchasing.<\/p>\n<p>A few of my personal favorites include: \u00a0&#8216;Autumn Blaze&#8217; hybrid maple, &#8216;Espresso&#8217; Kentucky coffeetree, any male ginkgo, \u00a0&#8216;Slender Silhouette&#8217; sweetgum, and &#8216;Ace of Hearts&#8217; and &#8216;Don Egolf&#8217; redbuds.<\/p>\n<p>Boxelder (<em>Acer negundo<\/em>) \u2013 male cultivars &#8216;Baron&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Red Maple (<em>Acer rubrum<\/em>) \u2018Flame\u2019, \u2018Northwood\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Silver maple (<em>A. saccharinum<\/em>) \u2018Beebe Cutleaf Weeping\u2019, \u2018Silver Queen\u2019, \u2018Skinneri\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Hybrid maples (<em>Acer x<\/em> <em>freemanii)<\/em> \u2018Celzam\u2019, \u2018Autumn Blaze\u2019, \u2018Jeffersred\u2019 (nearly seedless)<\/p>\n<p>Red horse chestnut (<em>Aesculus x carnea<\/em>) \u2013 Ruby, \u2018Briotti\u2019 (almost fruitless)<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Baumann\u2019 Horse chestnut (<em>Aesculus hippocastanum<\/em> \u2018Baumannii\u2019)<\/p>\n<p>Redbud (<em>Cercis canadensis<\/em>) \u2018Ace of Hearts\u2019, \u2018Flame\u2019 (double flowered)<\/p>\n<p>Chinese redbud (<em>Cercis chinensis<\/em> \u2018Don Egolf\u2019) &#8211; no seed<\/p>\n<p>American persimmon (<em>Diospyros virginiana<\/em>) &#8211; male clones<\/p>\n<p>American ash (<em>Fraxinus americana<\/em>) \u2018Skyline\u2019, \u2018Autumn Purple\u2019, others.<\/p>\n<p>Green Ash (<em>F. pennsylvanica<\/em>), \u2018Marshall Seedless\u2019, \u2018Summit\u2019, others.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky coffeetree (<em>Gymnocladus diocus<\/em> \u2018Espresso\u2019)<\/p>\n<p>Ginkgo (<em>Ginkgo biloba<\/em>), use male cultivars such as \u2018Halka\u2019, \u2018Autumn Gold\u2019, &#8216;Princeton Sentry\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Honeylocust (<em>Gleditsia triacanthos<\/em> f. inermis) \u2018Fairview\u2019, \u2018Green Glory\u2019, \u2018Imperial\u2019, \u2018Moraine\u2019, \u2018Shademaster\u2019, \u2018Skyline\u2019, \u2018Sunburst\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Hollies (<em>Ilex spp<\/em>.) -male clones<\/p>\n<p>Sweetgum (<em>Liquidambar styraciflua<\/em>) \u2018Rotundiloba\u2019, Happidaze\u2122, \u00a0&#8216;Slender Silhouette\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Crabapple (<em>Malus sp<\/em>p.), \u2018Spring Snow\u2019 (fruitless, but fire blight and apple scab susceptible)<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Chapparal\u2019 Weeping Mulberry (<em>Morus alba<\/em>) \u2018Chaparral\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Kwanzan cherry (<em>Prunus serrulata<\/em> \u2018Kwanzan\u2019)<\/p>\n<p>Black locust (<em>Robinia pseudoaccia<\/em> \u2018Frisia\u2019)<\/p>\n<p>Sassafras (<em>Sassafras albidum<\/em>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Perhaps you don&#8217;t like picking up messy fruits and seeds from your lawn in the fall and winter.
