The short list include cosmos, several kinds of salvias, globe amaranth (<em>Gomphrena<\/em>), and dahlias<\/p>\n<p>Avid fall gardeners living in zones 6 and 7 replant many favorite annuals in late summer and fall as a \u201cshoulder season\u201d. They start out new bedding plants in late August and they will carry through in glorious color into mid-November in many areas of the U.S. The list includes cosmos, marigolds, petunias, calibrachoas, cupheas, celosias, and diascias.<\/p>\n<p>Several other perennials have extended bloom times and may still be flowering in the early days of autumn.\u00a0These plants can also be grown and installed into the landscape specifically to provide a source of nectar for the pollinators, as well as to boost the amount of color in the fall gardens.\u00a0Some great options include agastache, coreopsis, coneflowers (<em>Echinacea purpurea<\/em>), fleabane (<em>Erigeron<\/em>), and black eyed Susan (<em>Rudbeckia hirta<\/em>)<em>, <\/em>and salvias (<em>Salvia spp<\/em>.).
